Keeping Active with Ste. Anne's
As the leaves begin to fall, snow arrives and the sun rises later and sets earlier, you may begin to experience a shift in your mood. Brought on by the change in access to sunlight, the winter blues is something to be mindful of during the coming colder months. Without sufficient Vitamin D intake from the sun and the associated drop in serotonin levels, your body can experience fatigue, muscle weakness and mood changes like depression.
The best source of Vitamin D is from the sun, but with the shorter days and colder weather, it can be extremely difficult for the body to receive enough of this fundamental nutrient. By staying physically active and getting outside you may reap such benefits as:
- Improved mood
- Decreased stress and tension
- Better sleep
- Improved circulation
- Lower blood pressure
So, don’t let the cold air keep you from getting outside! Dress for the weather, wear comfortable warm clothing with breathable insulated layers and don’t forget your weatherproof shoes with supportive insoles. Not only will you be enjoying the benefits of a new adventure but boosting your metabolism and immunity during the cold flu season too.
